What does double layer actually mean and why does it matter for drying?

So a regular microfiber towel is one layer of woven microfiber throughout. Double layer means there are two distinct layers built into the same towel: an outer long pile that makes contact with the wet surface and pulls water in fast, and an inner absorbent layer that stores all that moisture and stops the outer layer from getting saturated too quickly.

Is 1300 GSM overkill for home use or is it worth it outside of car drying?

It's not overkill if you have large surfaces to dry or you just want the job done properly in one go. Large bathroom mirrors, shower screens after a wash down, big kitchen counter slabs, floor to ceiling glass windows the 1300 GSM towel handles all of those faster and with a cleaner result than a lighter towel would.

My car has ceramic coating. Is this safe to use on it?

Yes, and honestly this is one of the best towels you can use on a ceramic-coated car. Ceramic coatings are fantastic but they do make swirl marks more visible if the wrong material touches the surface. The outer long pile on this towel is so soft it barely makes pressure contact with the paint it's lifting water off before it really presses against the coating underneath.

It's 1300 GSM won't it be really heavy and hard to wring out when wet?

It does have proper weight to it when saturated. That's just physics, there's a lot of material holding a lot of water. But it's not difficult or awkward to wring out. A good firm twist and most of the water comes out cleanly. What people actually find is that because it holds so much water before it needs wringing, they're wringing it out far less often than with a lighter towel so the total effort of drying something is actually less, not more

How do I wash this properly so the double layer structure stays intact?

Machine wash on a gentle or normal cycle with mild detergent. That's all it needs. The two things that damage double layer microfiber over time are fabric softener and high heat drying. Fabric softener gets into the fibres and slowly reduces absorbency; both layers stop pulling water in as effectively heat setting, skip the softener entirely, and this towel holds its structure and performance for a very long time.
